Dr. G.H. MohanScientific Officer - F & Chief Veterinarian, Animal Care Facility, ACRC

Dr. Mohan received his B.V.Sc and A.H (equivalent to DVM) from the Bengaluru Veterinary College of the University of Agricultural Sciences, UAS-GKVK. He furthered his studies at the same institution and obtained M.V.Sc in Veterinary Pharmacology & Toxicology for the research work on the "Effect of closantel on certain natural host defence mechanisms and immune response in rabbits".  He has obtained FELASA -C certificate course in Laboratory animal Medicine from TANUVAS and has training in rodent micro surgery from Rene Remie Surgical Skill Centre, Netherlands. He has been associated with NCBS for over 22 years and has got vast experience in designing barrier protected animal facility layout plans, establishing global standard Specific Pathogen Free (SPF) health status animal colonies, training Veterinarians, animal care staff and animal users in various aspects of laboratory animal use and colony management. He has been instrumental in overall management of Vivaria on BLiSc campus.  He is a life member of the Laboratory Animal Scientists Association (LASA), Indian Veterinary Council (IVC) and the Karnataka Veterinary Association (KVA).

Dr. Mahesh Sahare: Scientist-D & Head, Mouse Genome Engineering Facility

Dr. Mahesh Sahare joined as MGEF Facility Manager (Scientist-D) at BLiSC, Bangalore in October 2021. He is a veterinary science professional specialized in Animal Genetics and Breeding from Nagpur Veterinary college, mafsu university, Nagpur, Maharashtra.

He was awarded the MEXT Fellowship to pursue Ph.D in JAPAN. Mahesh completed his PhD in Reproductive Biology from Kyoto University, JAPAN. His work was focussed on the establishment of spermatogonial stem cells line in bulls for generation of male mediated transgenesis in livestock.

In 2016, Mahesh joined the Indian Institute of Science Education & Research IISER Pune to established and lead the transgenic facility with support from Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, (grant number BT/INF/22/SP17358/2016). During this time Mahesh had the oppotunity to go for training in genome editing technologies and model generation in rodents at the Transgenic Core, University of Alabama, USA.

Previously, Mahesh also worked as a Scientist at Datar Genetics Limited, Nasik. He was in-charge of Advance Tissue Culture laboratory and leading the team for development of Cell-based chemo-sensitivity diagnostic test for cancer patients to predict potential responsiveness of their cancer to specific drugs.

Mahesh is passionate about the generation of genome edited models for basic research as well as drug discovery.
