The Ramanathan group at inStem is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow in Mass Spectrometry/lipidomics- for a collaborative effort between the Mayor and Ramanathan labs at the Max Planck Lipid Center, Bangalore.
Position Summary: A postdoctoral fellow position between the Mayor and Ramanathan laboratories at the Max Planck Lipid Center situated in the Banglore LifeSciences Cluster (BLISC).The Center is a joint initiative of the National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) and the Max Planck Society (MPS). The Lipid Center was set up to advance collaborative research activity between scientists at NCBS and the Max Planck Institute for Cell biology and Genetics, Dresden-Germany in understanding the function of lipids, specific chemical components of living cells. In this context the Lipid Center has built mass spectrometry based lipidomics platforms that spans quantitative targeted profiling of subset of lipid species to shotgun lipidomics. The BLISC offers an array of mass spectrometric capabilities that can be leveraged including- Triple quadrupole/ Hybrid iontrap-triple quadrupole instruments, High resolution mass spectrometry, Ultra-high performance liquid chromatography (UPLC/UHPLC), Ion Chromatography and a platform for shotgun lipidomics/ metabolomics
In this context the postdoctoral fellow will jointly train in both Mayor and Ramanathan laboratories to develop cutting edge lipidomics technologies to uncover lipid and membrane remodeling in single cells, and apply insights into understanding skeletal muscle stem cell plasticity and fate determination.
-Develop high sensitivity microfluidic based approaches to isolate and ionize extracts from single cells.
-Shotgun lipid profiling and data analysis of lipid extracts
-Data interpretation, pathway mapping and communication with coordinators/leaders of the Lipid Center.
- Interfacing with scientists from leading vendors such as AB SCIEX and Thermofisher for training and consultation on developing novel lipidomics workflows.
A PhD in a relevant scientific discipline with experience in mass spectrometry. Prior experience in using nanospray based ionization, and mass spectrometry of small molecules, (preferably lipids) is required. Flexibility in prior experience will be given in assessing the overall suitability of the candidate. Previous laboratory experience in biochemistry is preferred as is a strong interest to develop expertise in mammalian tissue culture. Candidates must collaborative and be able to work in a multidisciplinary environment.
